How your subscribers reach their customer portal and log in without a password

The main ways subscribers reach their Subi customer portal (direct link, subscription email links, the Shopify customer account section), plus the passwordless one-time-code login steps to share with customers.

Merchants ask us three things about the customer portal: is there a Manage subscription button when a customer logs in, is there a portal outside the Shopify customer account, and which link should I send my subscribers. The short answer: there are three main ways in, and the direct Subi portal link works with nothing to set up. This article shows each of them, then gives you the login steps you can pass on to your customers.

The main ways your subscribers reach their portal

Subi hosts a ready-to-use portal at https://portal.subi.co/login/. Customers log in with a one-time code sent to their email, without a Shopify account or a password. You can share this link anywhere: in your own emails, on a page of your store, in a chat reply.

To copy or preview it from your admin, open Storefront & Portal > Customer Portal. The Your customer portals section shows the Subi portal card with Copy and Preview buttons.

Every portal link in your subscription emails opens whichever portal you choose here: on the same Customer Portal page, the Customer portal link in emails section lets you pick the Subi portal (the default, always available) or the Shopify customer account. The choice saves as soon as you select it. If you pick the Shopify customer account, add the customer account extension first (see 3 below), otherwise customers who open the link may not see their subscriptions. The Shopify customer account option is available on plans that include the customer account extension; on other plans it shows a lock and the Subi portal stays available.

3. A Manage subscriptions section inside the Shopify customer account

Subi's customer account extension adds a subscription-management section to your store's own customer account, so a customer who logs in to your store sees their subscriptions there. It appears once two things are true:

  1. Your store uses Shopify's new customer accounts. In your Shopify admin, open Settings > Customer accounts and switch from Legacy to Customer accounts.

  2. The Subi extension is added to your theme. Open Online Store > Themes, click Customize, choose Checkout and customer accounts from the top menu, find Subi under Apps in the left panel and add it with the plus icon. Then name the section, for example "Manage Your Subscriptions", and save.

If a customer logs in to your store and sees no subscriptions section, one of the two steps above is usually missing. Full setup guide: What is the Customer Account Extension (Embedded Portal)?

Both portals give subscribers the same actions and share the same appearance settings. The Shopify customer account keeps customers on your store's domain; the Subi portal works with no setup. What subscribers can do in either one is covered in How can subscribers manage their subscriptions?

Logging in with a one-time code (instructions you can share with customers)

The Subi portal uses passwordless login: no account to create, no password to remember. Here is what your customer does.

  1. Open the portal link: https://portal.subi.co/login/

  2. Enter the email address associated with your subscription or membership and click Send.

  3. Check your inbox for the 6-digit code.

  4. Enter the 6-digit code to log in.

  5. You are in. Your subscriptions are listed and ready to manage.

The 6-digit code is valid for 2 minutes. If it was not used in time, go through the login steps again to get a new one.

If the code does not arrive

  • Use the email address that is on the subscription or membership, the one entered at the login step above.

  • Check the spam or junk folder, then request a new code; each code is valid for 2 minutes.

  • Still nothing? Ask the store.

For merchants: when a customer asks, open their subscription in Contracts. The Customer Information section carries a link to their customer portal that you can send them.
