How do I get started and set up my first subscription plan in Subi?

Create and launch your first Subi subscription, membership, or box plan with setup steps, feature overview, widget activation, and testing.

Subi is a subscription management platform built for Shopify stores. With Subi, you can easily launch, manage, and grow recurring revenue models such as subscribe & save, subscription boxes, and memberships. This guide shows you how to set up your first subscription plan in Subi so you can start selling on a recurring basis, from plan creation to widget activation and testing.

Just installed Subi? Start with the install wizard

When you install Subi for the first time, you land on a guided 4-step wizard that drafts your starter subscription plan based on your store and gets your widget live on your theme. The whole setup typically takes under 5 minutes.

What the wizard does for you

  • Detection: an animated screen analyses your store — your products, language, any existing subscriptions, and which themes you have.

  • Step 1 — Pick your goal: choose between Subscribe & Save, Membership, Mystery Box, Build a Box, or Fixed Bundle. An AI Recommendation card explains why we suggest a particular path. Use the “Tell us more” field to refine the recommendation in plain language.

  • Step 2 — Review your AI-drafted plan: Subi pre-fills the plan fields based on your catalog. Edit any field, see a live phone preview on the right, then save to continue.

  • Step 3 — Activate the widget on your theme: pick any theme (Live or Draft), click Enable, save in the theme editor, and click Check now. Build-a-Box has a dedicated 3-step variant with a Box ID to copy and paste into the block.

  • Step 4 — Choose your pricing plan: required to finish setup. Free plans skip Shopify’s approval screen and apply directly. After this step, you land on your dashboard.

Already a Subi merchant? The wizard only appears on first install. Existing merchants continue using the dashboard they already know — the manual steps below also work if you want to set up additional plans, change themes, or revisit any step.

Can I skip the wizard?

You can click “Skip for now” on any step except the pricing step. The wizard dismisses and you land on your dashboard — you can come back to complete setup at any time. The pricing step is required because Subi needs a plan to be selected to finish setup.

Coming from another subscription app?

If Subi detects active subscribers from your previous subscription app during install, the wizard shows a Migration Preview screen with a “Request migration help” button. Our team will reach out to help transfer your subscribers. If your previous app isn’t auto-detected, you can still click Request Migration at any time — see How do I migrate my existing subscriptions to Subi? for the full process.

What can I create with Subi?

To decide what to set up first, here’s what each subscription model lets you do:

Subscribe & Save

When you ask “How do I offer Subscribe & Save in Subi?”, the answer is that you can let customers subscribe to a product at a discount to improve retention and predictable revenue.

Example: Offer a monthly coffee subscription so customers receive beans every month at a discounted price.

Membership Programs

If you’re wondering “How do memberships work in Subi?”, memberships give subscribers access to perks such as exclusive content or discounts.

Example: Launch a multi-tier membership with monthly or yearly billing that unlocks member-only content.

Subscription Box

If your question is “How can I sell curated bundles on a schedule?”, use a subscription box to deliver themed products on a recurring basis and increase average order value (AOV).

Example: Offer a skincare box where customers receive a curated set each month at the best price.
