To sell subscriptions on your Shopify store using third-party apps like Subi, your store must meet specific eligibility requirements set by Shopify. This article outlines those requirements and how to check if your store is eligible.
What payment gateways are required to sell subscriptions on Shopify?
Shopify restricts which payment gateways can be used with subscription products. To enable subscriptions, your store must be using one of these payment gateways:
Stripe, which is only available to some merchants
Customers can also pay for subscriptions using accelerated checkout methods like Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal.
Important: Customers cannot purchase subscriptions using local payment methods such as Klarna, mollie iDEAL, or Sofort.
Shipping, local delivery, and pick up in store are supported as delivery options for subscriptions.
Subscription products are only supported on the Online Store and Custom Storefront sales channels.
Subscription products aren't compatible with product bundles.
Which sales channels and delivery methods support subscriptions?
Supported delivery options: Shipping, local delivery, and in-store pickup can be offered for subscription orders.
Supported sales channels: Subscription products are only available on the Online Store and Custom Storefront sales channels.
Product bundles: Subscription products are not compatible with product bundles. If you want to sell bundled subscriptions, use the Fixed Bundle Subscription Plan in Subi.
How do I check if my store is eligible to sell subscriptions?
If your Shopify store does not meet the eligibility requirements, Subi will display a banner when you attempt to create a new Subscription Plan.
If you see the banner, your store is not eligible to sell subscriptions.
If you do not see the banner, your store is eligible and you can proceed to set up subscriptions.
