How do I limit how far a customer can reschedule their next order?

Set a maximum number of billing cycles a customer can move their next order date ahead.

What this does

You can limit how far a customer can reschedule their next order. Set a maximum number of billing cycles, and a customer can move the next order date no further ahead than that many cycles of their own subscription, counted from the date the next order is currently scheduled for.

For example, with a limit of 2:

  • On a monthly subscription whose next order is on October 13, the latest date the customer can pick is December 13.

  • On a subscription billed every 3 months whose next order is on October 13, the latest date is April 13.

  • On a subscription billed every 2 weeks whose next order is on October 13, the latest date is November 10.

The limit is empty by default, which means no limit. Nothing changes for your customers until you set a number.

How to set the limit

  1. Go to Subi app Settings > Customer Portal > Customer permissions.

  2. In Subscription interval and delivery, make sure Customer can Reschedule their subscription is on.

  3. In Maximum billing cycles a customer can move the next order ahead, enter a whole number of 1 or more.

  4. Click Save. The limit applies immediately.

To remove the limit, clear the field and save. If you don't want customers to reschedule at all, turn off Customer can Reschedule their subscription instead; the limit can't be 0.

What the customer sees

When a customer reschedules their next order, in the customer portal or in Shopify customer accounts, the calendar only lets them pick dates up to the limit. Later dates are greyed out.

If a customer tries to save a date past the limit anyway, for example from a page that was open before you set it, the change is refused and the next order date stays the same. In the customer portal they see "You can move this order up to 2 billing cycles ahead." (with your number).

What the limit applies to

The limit only applies to customers rescheduling their own next order. It does not apply to:

  • Dates you change from the Subi admin, including bulk edits.

  • Dates changed through the Subi public API.

  • The cancellation flow's delay billing offer.

The limit counts from the currently scheduled date each time, so a customer who moves the order 2 cycles ahead can later move it again, up to 2 cycles from the new date.

Where to see refused attempts

Each refused attempt is recorded on the subscription's timeline in the Subi admin, with the date the customer asked for and the date the order stays on.
