How do I give and show my customers' loyalty app points in Subi?

Connect Smile, Yotpo, Rivo or LoyaltyLion to give subscribers points when they subscribe and renew, and see balances in Subi.

If you already run a loyalty app (Smile, Yotpo, Rivo or LoyaltyLion), you can connect it to Subi. Once connected, Subi can give your subscribers points in that app when they start a subscription and on each paid renewal, and it shows each subscriber's points balance on their subscription. So the answer to "can my subscribers earn points in my loyalty app for subscribing?" is yes: turn on Give points for subscriptions and choose the amounts. Your loyalty program's own rules and rewards stay as they are. The connection is available on every Subi plan.

Before you start

Get the credentials from your loyalty app:

  • Smile: an API key. Create one in Smile under Settings, Developer tools. API keys need Smile Plus or higher. To give points, the key needs the points_transaction:write permission.

  • Yotpo: your API key and your Store GUID. Both values are in Yotpo under Settings, General settings.

  • Rivo: an API key. Create one in Rivo under Settings, Developer Toolkit. API keys need Rivo's Plus plan.

  • LoyaltyLion: a program API key. Create one in LoyaltyLion under Settings, API keys. To give points, the key needs the write_customers permission.

Stamped is not supported at the moment.

Connect your loyalty app

  1. In Subi, open Settings > Integrations and find the Loyalty points card. Its badge reads Not connected. Click Configure.

  2. Click Connect your loyalty app. A Loyalty app credentials window opens: choose your Loyalty app (Smile, Yotpo, Rivo or LoyaltyLion) and fill in the fields that app needs: the API key, plus the Store GUID for Yotpo.

  3. Click Connect. Subi checks the credentials with your loyalty app before saving anything. If the app rejects them, the field shows Check this value and nothing is stored; correct the value and try again.

  4. Once connected, the page badge and the Integrations card badge read Connected to and your app's name, for example Connected to Smile.

Give points for subscriptions

Connecting alone sends no points. To give points, open Settings > Integrations > Loyalty points and turn on Give points for subscriptions. It is off until you turn it on. Two amounts appear:

  • Points for starting a subscription: added when a customer starts a subscription at checkout. Two subscriptions started in one checkout give the amount twice.

  • Points for each paid renewal: added each time a renewal is paid. A failed or skipped renewal gives nothing, and a renewal paid after a retry gives points once.

Each amount is a whole number from 0 to 1,000,000. The switch saves as soon as you click it, and an amount saves when you leave its field; you see Points settings saved.

Subscriptions you imported from another app, or created by hand in Subi, get no points for starting. Their paid renewals do earn renewal points.

See the points Subi sent

Once Subi has tried to give points, a Points sent table appears under the switch, newest first, 25 rows a page. Each row shows the Date, the Customer, what the points were For (Started a subscription or Paid renewal), the Points and the Status:

  • Added: your loyalty app accepted the points.

  • Not added: the points did not reach your loyalty app. Subi finds the customer in your loyalty app by email. If the app does not know that email yet, Subi keeps trying for up to 24 hours before showing Not added. If the email matches more than one customer in your loyalty app, Subi shows Not added straight away rather than guess.

Where the balances appear

Open any subscription contract in Subi. The customer card shows a line such as Points in Smile with the balance, for example 1,250 points. Subi looks the customer up in your loyalty app by their email address, so a customer who uses a different email there shows no line. The balance is refreshed at most every 5 minutes, so points earned a moment ago can take a few minutes to show. Subscription contracts of a store with no connection show nothing at all.

If your loyalty app refuses to add points

Some keys can read balances but are not allowed to add points. When your loyalty app refuses an add, both badges read Needs reconnect and a line under the switch tells you what to fix: for Smile, a key with the points_transaction:write permission; for LoyaltyLion, a key with the write_customers permission; for Yotpo and Rivo, check that your plan and key allow adding points. Balances keep showing on your subscriptions in the meantime, and each refused add shows Not added. Click Reconnect, paste a key with that permission and click Connect. Your switch and amounts stay as they were.

If the points stop loading

When your loyalty app starts rejecting the saved key, for example because you rotated it, the Integrations card badge changes to Needs reconnect, the contract page shows Points unavailable, your loyalty app needs reconnecting, and the configuration page explains that your app rejected the saved key. Click Enter a new key in that warning, paste a current key in the window that opens and click Connect to start reading balances again.

A temporary problem reaching your loyalty app shows Couldn't load points from your loyalty app on the contract page instead; the line recovers on its own once the app answers again.

Disconnect

On the configuration page, click Disconnect and confirm in the Disconnect your loyalty app? dialog. Subi stops showing points balances, stops giving points and deletes the stored key. Points Subi was still waiting to send show Not added. Your Points sent history and your amounts are kept: if you connect again, to the same app or another, Give points for subscriptions is off until you turn it back on. Your loyalty program itself is not affected.

Good to know

  • Subi only adds points. It never removes or spends points in your loyalty app, and your program's own earning rules and rewards stay as they are.

  • Each renewal gives points at most once, even if its payment is tried more than once.

  • This is separate from Subi's own loyalty program under Retention > Loyalty program. You can use either, both, or neither.

  • The connection is available on every Subi plan.
