Upsells in Billing Reminder Emails (Beta)

Feature: Upsells let subscribers add products to their next subscription order directly from billing reminder emails.

🧪 This feature is currently in beta testing. While we’re excited to offer you early access, it may still have some bugs or issues as we continue to improve it.

How It Works

  • Upsells appear in billing reminder emails

  • Clicking an upsell adds the product to the next order as a subscription item — no checkout needed

  • Products already in the upcoming order are excluded

Where Upsells Appear

  • Currently in billing reminder emails

  • Future updates will extend upsells to the customer portal and other locations

⚙️ Set Up Upsells

  1. Go to Subi → Upsells tab

  2. Click Set up on the upsell card

  3. Click Create rule

  4. Choose your audience targeting:

    • All subscribers

    • Customers with specific products

    • Subscribers created within N days

    • Customers with Shopify tags

  5. Select products to promote

  6. Choose the number of products to show per email

  7. Click Save

    Products are randomly selected from your chosen list for each email.

Customer Permissions Required

  • Navigate to Customer permissions → Products

  • Enable "Customers can add products"

  • If disabled, upsells won’t work and a warning will appear

Upsell Product Rules

  • Random selection from eligible products

  • Exclude products already in next order

  • Upsells are always added as subscription items

Managing Upsell Rules

  • You can now create multiple rules (new!)

  • Rules include:

    • Drag-and-drop rule ordering

    • Priority-based matching (top-down)


Beta Limitations

  • Only billing reminder emails are supported for now

  • Limited analytics and reporting

  • Audience targeting is basic, but improving


FAQs

Can customers remove an upsell after adding it?
Yes, if you’ve enabled the "Customers can remove products" permission under Customer permissions → Products, customers can manage their subscriptions and remove items from upcoming orders.

Are upsells added as one-time products?
No, upsells are always added as subscriptions.

Will upsells show products the customer already has?
No, those products are automatically excluded.
