How do I prepare migration data from Recharge for Subi?

Export the required Recharge reports or provide an API key so Subi can prepare your subscription data for migration.

Updated yesterday

We’re excited to help you transition from Recharge to Subi! To ensure a smooth migration, you’ll need to export specific data from Recharge and follow a few important pre-migration steps. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through everything!

To prepare your migration data from Recharge for Subi, you can either share a Recharge API key so we retrieve your data automatically or export and send four specific reports. This guide explains when to use each method and the exact steps.

Before you start: For the complete end-to-end process, see How do I migrate my existing subscriptions to Subi?

When should I use this guide?

Use this guide after you’ve decided to migrate to Subi and completed any pre-migration preparation in your store (for example, installing Subi and recreating your plans). This ensures your export includes the correct data.

Method 1: Provide a Recharge API key (recommended)

If you provide a Recharge API key, Subi can retrieve your data automatically and prepare it for migration.

Steps:

  1. Open the Recharge app.

  2. Go to Tools & appsAPI token.

  3. Create a new API token, granting Read access to the relevant data.

  4. Send your API key and API client secret to the Subi team via your migration ticket or our initial email thread.

Then we will retrieve your data and prepare it for migration to Subi. Please ensure you follow the Pre-Migration Preparation steps provided here.

Method 2: Export reports from Recharge (manual)

If you prefer manual export, send these four reports to the Subi team:

  1. Subscriptions – All

  2. Customers – Shipping Addresses

  3. Customers – Payment Tokens

    • Used to identify the payment method for each subscription.

  4. Orders – Processed

    • Ensure every Subscription ID has at least one corresponding order. If your data spans multiple years, export each year separately.

Important: If you have several years of data, export each year for Orders – Processed to avoid missing records during migration.

How to export reports in Recharge

  1. In the Recharge merchant portal, select DataExports.

  2. Click Create Exports.

  3. Choose the export type (for example, Subscriptions – All).

  4. (Optional) Enter a custom export name and your email address.

  5. Click Create Export.

Payment methods and migration readiness

Your customers’ payment methods affect migration readiness. Make sure your subscriptions use an eligible processor:

  • Shopify Payments: If subscriptions already use Shopify Payments, you can proceed.

  • Stripe: If subscriptions use Stripe, review Migration Data Preparation – Stripe before proceeding.
Please check: Migration Data Preparation – Stripe

  • Custom checkouts: If subscriptions were created via custom checkouts, contact Recharge to convert payments to Shopify Payments; otherwise, existing subscriptions created via custom checkouts cannot be migrated to Subi.

Knowing the payment method helps ensure a smooth transition for your subscribers, so be sure to double-check this information.
