Overview
Subi allows you to automatically tag both your subscribers and their subscription orders. These tags can help you organize your store's products and customer data, improving your business operations and marketing efforts. This article covers how to enable automated tags, the types of tags available, and the benefits of using Subi Tag Management.
What your store needs
Tag management is part of the Smart tagging & integrations add-on, listed at $19 per month. The Subi and Subi Plus plans include it already.
Open Settings > Tag management. If your plan does not include it, the tag sections show a lock. Click one and Subi shows what unlocks it: a plan that carries it with a link to compare them all, a Buy as Add-on button, and, if your store has not had a free add-on before, a Try this add-on free for a month card. Click Request a free month to start a chat with us and we turn the add-on on for you: its first month is free, then it is billed at its monthly price unless you remove it before the month ends. While the free month runs, the add-on's price reads Free until its end date, for example Free until Nov 4, with its monthly price struck through beside it. The add-on is active immediately and you can cancel it at any time from your pricing settings.
On the Free plan an add-on cannot be bought, so that screen shows the plans that include it instead. If you want tag management without changing plans, ask us in the chat.
How to Enable Automated Tags in Subi?
To enable automated tags, follow these steps:
Open the Subi app.
Navigate to Settings > Tag Management.
When you turn a tag on, does Subi also tag the subscribers and orders I already have? Yes. When you turn a tag on and save, Subi keeps adding it to new subscribers and new subscription orders, and it also adds it to your existing subscribers and subscription orders that should carry it.
This happens in the background, a little at a time, so that your store stays fast. On a store with many subscribers it can take a few hours before every existing customer and order has the tag.
Only your subscription customers and subscription orders are tagged, never your whole customer list. Subi only adds tags; it never removes one.
What Automated Tags Are Available in Subi for Orders and Customers?
Order Tags
Subi offers three types of automated tags for subscription orders:
Subi Subscription: Automatically tagged for all orders generated by Subi once Tag Management is enabled.
First Subscription Order: This tag is added to the first order of a subscription plan.
Recurring Order #number: Labels each recurring order with a sequential number (e.g., Recurring Order #1, Recurring Order #2, etc.).
Customer Tags
There are five automated tags available for your subscribers:
Subi Subscriber: For any customer who has made at least one subscription.
Has Active Subscription: For customers with an active subscription.
Has Paused Subscription: For customers with a paused subscription.
Has Cancelled Subscription: For customers who have canceled their subscription.
payment failure: For customers whose latest subscription payment failed. Subi removes this tag when a payment succeeds, or when the failing subscription is cancelled or expires, unless another active subscription of the same customer is still failing.
Note: Turning a tag on also adds it to your existing subscribers and subscription orders. If you have a Shopify Flow or Klaviyo automation that starts when this tag is added, it will run for those existing customers and orders too, so check your automations before you turn a tag on.
Because Subi only adds tags, an existing customer can briefly carry two status tags, for example Has Active Subscription and Has Paused Subscription. The extra one is corrected the next time that customer's subscription changes.
Turned your tags on before this update? Ask us in the chat and we can tag your existing subscribers and orders for you.
Why Should I Use Subi Tag Management?
Subi's automated tags can enhance your business's organization, communication, and marketing strategies. Here are some key benefits:
Organize Your Inbox with Tags
Tags help filter and categorize subscription orders and customers for easier inbox management in your Shopify Admin Panel. You can save these filters for quicker access to specific views.
Email Automation with Tags
You can use Subi tags to trigger automated emails when specific tags are added to a customer’s profile. For example, set up a welcome email for new subscribers or send promotional offers to active members. Subi tags integrate with email marketing apps like Klaviyo, Shopify Email, and others to streamline your communication.
Winning Back Customers with Tags
Use tags like “Has Paused Subscription” or “Has Cancelled Subscription” to target customers with special offers or discount codes, encouraging them to renew their subscriptions.
Loyalty Programs with Tags
Integrate Subi tags with your loyalty program to send notifications and rewards to customers based on their subscription activity. For instance, offer rewards when a customer reaches their 5th subscription order to foster customer retention.
Product Reviews with Tags
Automate product review requests for customers on their 3rd recurring order using tags. This helps you gather valuable feedback without manual intervention.
Create Member-Only Content with Tags and Exclusive Access
While Subi tags can be used for customer and order management, you can also combine them with Subi’s Membership Exclusive Access feature to restrict content for members only. This allows you to offer exclusive access to specific products and pages based on customer tags.
