Subi's merchant referral program lets you earn money by recommending Subi to other Shopify merchants. You share your personal referral code or link, and when a merchant you referred installs Subi, picks a paid plan and completes their trial, you earn a $10 flat bonus plus 25% of every invoice they're billed, for as long as they stay. The merchant you refer gets 50% off their first two invoices. This article shows you where to find your code, how to share it, what you earn, and how to follow your referrals.
This is a different program from the customer Refer a friend reward in Subi's loyalty program, which rewards your own subscribers for bringing friends to your store. For that one, see How do I set up customer referrals (Refer a friend) in my Subi loyalty program?
Where to find your referral code
In the Subi admin, open Settings from the left-hand menu, then click Referrals in the settings menu. The Referrals page opens with a summary of the offer, your referral numbers, your code and the sharing tools. The Settings button at the top of the page takes you back to your settings.
Your code is created automatically the first time you open the page, so there is nothing to set up. It always looks like SUBI- followed by eight letters or numbers, and it appears in the Your referral code card together with a ready-made share link.
Referrals are available on paid Subi plans. If your store is on the Free plan, the page shows an Upgrade to access referrals message instead of your code, with an Upgrade plan button.
How to share your code
The quickest way is the Your referral code card: click Copy code to copy the code itself, or Copy link to copy the full share link. The button briefly reads Copied! so you know it worked, and you can paste either one anywhere you like.
To share straight from Subi, use the Share with others card and click Share. A menu offers WhatsApp, X / Twitter, LinkedIn, Email and Copy link. Choosing a channel opens that app or service with a short, pre-written message that recommends Subi and includes your link, so the other merchant only has to click it.
What the merchant you refer sees
When a merchant installs Subi through your link, the referral is tracked automatically. If they install Subi another way, they can still be linked to you: during their onboarding, Subi shows a Were you referred to Subi? banner where they enter your code and click Apply. Codes work in upper or lower case, and once applied the banner confirms Referral applied and names your store.
A few rules apply on their side. A referral code can be added within 30 days of installing Subi; after that the banner says the window has passed. Each store can apply only one referral, and a store cannot use its own code. Once the referral is in place, they get 50% off their first two Subi invoices.
What you earn
You earn on the invoices the referred merchant actually pays Subi. When they pick a paid plan and complete their trial, the referral qualifies and you receive a $10 flat bonus. From then on you earn 25% of every invoice they're billed, for as long as they stay. There is no cap on the number of months.
Because the referred merchant's first two invoices are discounted by 50%, your 25% on those two invoices is calculated on the discounted amount. As an example, if you refer a merchant onto a $100-per-month plan, their first two invoices are $50 each, so you earn $12.50 on each of them plus the $10 bonus. From the third invoice they pay $100, and you earn $25 a month for as long as they keep paying.
Commission is earned on monthly invoices. If the merchant you referred chooses an annual Subi plan, that referral does not earn commission.
Earnings are clawed back if the referred merchant cancels within 14 days of qualifying. During those 14 days the referral shows a Pending finalization note in your report; after that, the earnings lock in. If the merchant later stops paying, cancels or uninstalls Subi, your commission on that referral stops, and the commissions you already earned are kept. If they come back to a paid plan, commission starts again from their next invoice.
Following your referrals in the Referral report
Click View report at the top of the Referrals page to open the Referral report. The strip at the top shows your Total referrals, Qualified referrals with the conversion rate, Total earned, Pending referrals still in trial, and Pending earnings. Below it, a table lists every referral with the referred store, the date referred, its status, its plan and the commission earned, and you can filter it by status or download it with Export CSV.
Each status has a plain meaning. Pending means the referred merchant is still in trial. Qualified means they are on a paid plan and you are earning recurring commission on every invoice they pay. Expired means their trial ended without a paid plan, or that they stopped paying. Cancelled means the referral was reversed because the merchant cancelled within 14 days. Pending eligibility means the earnings are waiting for your own store to move to a paid plan, and Pending review means our team is reviewing the referral.
The Commission breakdown card splits your earnings into flat bonuses, recurring commissions and pending earnings from merchants still qualifying. The Payouts card shows your Available balance; a payout needs a balance of at least $10, so the Request payout button stays off until you reach it.
If your account is under review
Occasionally we review a referral account before paying out. When that happens, the Referral report shows a We're reviewing your account banner, payouts are paused, and new qualifying referrals appear with a Pending review badge until the review completes. Most reviews complete within 2 business days, and you can reach out to support if you have questions.
