When you add a product to a customer's existing subscription, it takes the discount of your subscription plan, as long as one of your live plans covers that product and delivers and bills on the same schedule as that subscription. You do not have to set the discount yourself.
How it works
Open the customer's subscription, click Edit on Next order details, choose Select products, tick the product you want and click Update. Subi looks for a live subscription plan of yours that includes that product and delivers and bills on the same schedule as this subscription. If it finds one, the product is added with that plan's discount already applied.
The product is saved to the subscription as soon as you click Update. The Product details list then shows the new line with the plan's discount, and you can change it there.
An example
Your Subscribe & Save plan gives $5 off every monthly delivery. A customer has a monthly subscription, and you add a product that costs $885.95 and is part of that plan. The product is added at $880.95, and the subscription line shows Subscription discount (-$5.00). Every future order for that customer charges $880.95 for it.
The same works for a percentage plan. A plan that gives 30% off, then 10% off from the fourth delivery onwards, counts the subscription's deliveries: added to a subscription that has had fewer than three deliveries, the product takes 30% off and moves to 10% off from the fourth; added to one that has had three or more, it takes 10% off straight away.
When the product is added at full price instead
There are two situations where Subi does not apply a discount, and adds the product at its normal price. In both the product is still added and the subscription saves normally.
No plan of yours covers that product on that schedule
If the product is not in any of your live subscription plans, or the plans that include it deliver or bill on a different frequency than this subscription, there is no discount to apply. For example, on a prepaid subscription billed every 3 months and delivered monthly, a plan that bills monthly gives no discount. Publishing a plan that includes the product, on that frequency, changes this for products you add from then on.
Two of your plans cover it and they disagree
If more than one of your live plans includes the product on that frequency and they offer different discounts, Subi does not choose between them: picking one would override a price you set deliberately. This happens most often when an all-products plan runs alongside a plan for one collection that is priced differently on purpose. The product is added at full price and you set the discount you want on the line.
Setting a different discount
Whatever discount the product is added with, you can change it once it is added. In the Product details list, set the discount on that product's line (Percent off, Fixed amount or Flat rate), then click Save. Your value replaces the plan's for that subscription only; the plan itself is unchanged.
Products that are already on subscriptions
This applies to products you add from now on. Products already sitting on a subscription keep whatever price they were saved with, so if you have subscriptions with products at full price that should have had a discount, you still need to correct those.
You can fix them one at a time by editing the discount on each subscription, or all at once from the subscriptions list with Bulk actions and Update price and discount.
Box, bundle, membership and volume discount plans
Build a box, fixed bundle and volume discount plans work differently on purpose: their discount depends on the whole order qualifying, not on a single product, so it is applied at checkout rather than stored on the product. Mystery box and membership plans are left out too. A product you add to a subscription never takes its discount from one of these plans. If one of your ordinary subscription plans also covers that product on the same frequency, that plan's discount is used.
