How do I grow subscriptions and increase order value with Subi?

An overview of Subi's Growth features: quick checkout links, the cart drawer, and upsell rules, plus which one to use for your goal.

To grow subscriptions and increase the value of each order with Subi, you use the features on the Growth page in your Subi admin. Each one solves a different problem, so this article explains what they do and helps you choose where to start. Every feature also has its own guide with full setup steps.

You will find them in your Subi admin by opening the left side menu and going to Growth.

Quick checkout links

The problem it solves: customers see your offer somewhere outside your store and drop off before they finish checkout.

A quick checkout link is a shareable URL that takes a customer straight to your Shopify checkout with the products, quantities, and subscription plan you chose already filled in. You can share it in emails, ads, banners, blog posts, or a custom landing page, and the customer skips every step in between. You can also group several products into a single link for a subscription box or bundle. Creating one takes no coding experience.

Start here when you want to promote one specific subscription offer through a channel you already own.

Cart drawer

The problem it solves: a shopper adds a one-time item to the cart and never discovers that the same product is available as a subscription.

Subi's cart drawer replaces your theme's default cart with a drawer you control. Its Subscription upgrade in cart option lets customers upgrade a one-time item to a subscription inside the drawer, so they do not have to go back to the product page. You can also match the drawer's colors to your theme, rewrite the text it shows, and display up to 10 cross-sell products inside it.

Start here when you want to reach one-time buyers at the moment they have already decided to buy.

Upsell rules

The problem it solves: your existing subscribers would happily add more to their next order, but nothing asks them.

Upsell rules let subscribers add products to their upcoming subscription order with a single click, and no checkout is required. You decide which products are offered, who sees them, and whether each product is added as a recurring subscription or a one-time purchase. The offers appear in a "You might also like" widget inside your automated upcoming payment reminder emails, and in a carousel inside the Subi-hosted customer portal.

Start here when you want to raise the value of orders from customers who already subscribe.

There is a related option that works inside checkout rather than after the sale. Checkout Upgrade is a Shopify checkout extension that shows an inline "Upgrade to subscription" option under an eligible one-time product in the checkout order summary. It is available on Subi Plus plans only, requires Shopify Plus (Checkout Extensibility), and is not compatible with Membership products.

Which one should I start with?

If you are not sure where to begin, match the feature to the goal you care about most right now:

  • Win new subscribers from a campaign, email, or ad: start with quick checkout links.

  • Convert more of the traffic already on your store: start with the cart drawer.

  • Earn more from the subscribers you already have: start with upsell rules.

These features do not compete with each other, so most stores end up using more than one. A common path is to turn on the cart drawer first, because it works on the traffic you already have, then add upsell rules once you have a base of active subscribers to offer products to.

Next steps

Open Growth in your Subi admin, pick the feature that matches your goal, and follow its setup guide above. You can turn each one on independently and come back for the others later.

If you are not sure which feature fits your store, or something is not appearing the way you expect, contact our support team from the chat in your Subi admin and we will help you choose.
