With Subi's Product Exclusive Access feature, you can now offer specific products exclusively to members of your membership plans. This built-in functionality allows you to control product purchase directly within Subi, enhancing your membership offerings.
How It Works
Subi enables you to assign exclusive access to products based on the membership plans your customers subscribe to. When a customer subscribes to a particular plan, they gain access to products designated for that plan, ensuring that only eligible members can purchase these exclusive items.
Step 1: Create or Edit a Membership Plan
Navigate to the Plans section in your Subi dashboard. Create a new plan or edit an existing one.
Note: Perks can only be set up on a saved membership plan. On a new plan that hasn't been saved yet, the Perks of Members section shows the message Save this plan first. You can enable perks as soon as it is saved. and its buttons are greyed out. Save the plan, and the buttons become available.
Step 2: Open the Exclusive Access Perk
Within the plan settings, scroll down to the Perks of Members section and find the Exclusive Access card.
If exclusive access isn't set up yet, click Enable.
If it's already set up, the card shows a green Active badge. Click Configure to change it.
The Active badge appears only when at least one tier has exclusive access turned on and at least one product or page selected.
Step 3: Set the Perk Details
The Exclusive Access Perk window opens.
Under Select tier:, choose the tier where you want to offer exclusive product access. A tier that already has exclusive access on shows a green Active label. If your plan has only one tier, there is no tier selection.
Turn on the toggle next to Apply exclusive access for "<tier>" members?. While the toggle is off, the fields below it can't be edited.
Click to expand the Exclusive Access Products section.
4. Search for products or click Browse, choose all the products you want to make exclusive, then click Update to save your selection. Picking a product turns the tier's toggle on for you.
5. To apply this to other tiers, switch between them under Select tier: and repeat the steps. Your changes on each tier are kept while you switch.
6. Once you're done, click Apply. Subi saves every tier you changed in one go and shows Perks saved successfully. Click Cancel (or close the window) instead to discard all your changes.
Note: A tier can't be saved with exclusive access turned on and nothing selected. If you click Apply in that case, Subi shows Pick at least one product or page for these members, or turn this off. on that tier and saves nothing until you add a product or page, or turn the toggle off.
Step 4: Review your setup
1. Visit the product page of any item you’ve set as exclusive.
2. You should see an exclusive access block instead of the “Add to Cart” button.
3. If the related membership hasn't been purchased:
The “Add to Cart” button will be hidden.
An exclusive access block will appear at the top of the page with a message like:
4. To test access, place a test order for the corresponding membership plan.
5. Refresh the product page — you should now see the “Add to Cart” button appear, confirming access is properly granted.
Step 5: Lock exclusive products at checkout too
The product page block stops non-members from buying on the product page. To stop non-members from buying exclusive products any other way (a quick add on a collection page, a direct cart link, or a "Buy it now" button), give Subi permission to check the cart at checkout.
1. Open your membership plan in Subi. If you have exclusive products and have not given this permission yet, a yellow banner reading Please update the app to access 'Exclusive Access' and continue here. shows at the top of the Perks of Members section, above the perk cards.
2. Click Update now on that banner. Shopify opens an Update data access window asking for access to cart and checkout validations.
3. Click Update. The banner disappears and the checkout lock turns on by itself. There is nothing else to set up.
What your customers see
Once the checkout lock is on, a customer who is not signed in, or who is signed in without the membership, can still add an exclusive product to the cart. At checkout they see your Access Denied title and description as a message at the top of the page, and they cannot pay. Members who are signed in check out as usual. A member who is not signed in can click Sign in on the checkout page and continue. Typing a member's email address at checkout without signing in does not unlock the product.
Good to know
Subscription renewals are not affected: existing subscriptions keep billing as before.
A customer who puts the membership and an exclusive product in the same cart is refused, because the membership is only active after its first order. They need to buy the membership first, then the exclusive product.
Exclusive products are not hidden from your store's search or collection pages; only buying them is restricted.
The lock appears in Shopify under Settings → Checkout → Checkout rules as Subi: members-only products. You can deactivate it there. Leave Block checkout if app experiences a problem unticked, so that a temporary problem never stops all of your checkouts.
If you remove the permission from Subi later, the rule stays active in Shopify with the products it had at that moment. Remove or deactivate it under Checkout rules, or give the permission again so Subi can keep it up to date.
Shopify allows 25 active checkout rules per store. If your store already has 25, the checkout lock cannot turn on and only the product page block applies.
Optional: Customize the Access Denied Block
You can personalize the message shown to non-members on exclusive product pages by customizing the Access Denied block.
In the Exclusive Access Perk window, expand the Exclusive Access Products section.
Click on Customize next to “Would you like to customize the "Products Access Denied" page?”
3. In the popup, you’ll find editable fields:
Title – The main heading displayed in the block (e.g., Members Only).
Description – A short message explaining the restriction (e.g., This content is for subscribers only. Tap 'Subscribe' and follow the process to unlock access.).
Subscribe Button Label – Customize the call-to-action button (e.g., Subscribe Now).
Login Text – Optional text for returning members (e.g., Already a member?).
Login Button Label – Label for the login link (e.g., Login).
4. Once you’re happy with the content, click Save in the popup, then click Apply in the Exclusive Access Perk window to save your changes.
