How to Create a Build-a-Box Subscription with Subi and Fast Bundle (Alternative Options)

A Build-a-Box subscription lets customers personalize their own recurring product bundle by choosing from a selection of items.

This guide walks you through setting up a Build-a-Box Subscription using Subi (for subscription plans) and Fast Bundle (for product bundling).

Example Use Cases

  • Fashion: Let customers select 2 out of 5 clothing items.

  • Beauty: Choose 3 skincare/makeup products.

  • Tech: Pick 2 out of 4 gadgets.Step 1: Create Subscription Plans for Each Item in Subi

Step 1: Set Up Subscription Plans in Subi

  1. Create individual products in Shopify for each item in your box (e.g., Classic Varsity Top, Chequered Red Shirt, Blue Silk Tuxedo).

  2. In the Subi app, add a subscription plan to each product.

    • Example: Monthly plan for each shirt.

Once each item has its own subscription plan, move on to Fast Bundle.

Step 2: Enable Subscriptions in Fast Bundle

  1. Install the Fast Bundle app from the Shopify App Store.

  2. In Fast Bundle, go to: Settings > Bundle Settings.

  3. Toggle ON the Subscription setting to support Subi.

Step 3: Create the Bundle (Mix & Match)

  1. Navigate to Create Bundles > select Fixed Bundle.

  2. Choose Sectioned list.

  3. Add the products you'd like to include in the box.

    • Example: Name the section "Build a Fashion Box".

  4. Set selection rules (e.g., customers can pick 2 out of 3 items).

  5. Name your bundle (e.g., Monthly Fashion Build-a-Box) and write a helpful description.

Step 4: Get the Liquid Code

  1. Go to Booster > Place Bundles on Any Page.

  2. Select the bundle you just created.

  3. Copy the Liquid code provided. You'll use this in your product template.

Step 5: Customize the Product Page in Shopify

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to: Online Store > Themes > Customize.

  2. Create a new product template (e.g., Build a Box Template).

Insert the Liquid code from Fast Bundle.

Hide the default Buy and Variant buttons (Fast Bundle will handle checkout).

Step 6: Assign the Template to Your Product

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Products and open your Build-a-Box product.

  2. Scroll to the Theme Template section.

  3. Choose the new template you created (e.g., Build a Box)

Step 7: Finalize and Launch

Your Build-a-Box subscription is ready!

  • The product page shows a Go to Bundle Builder button.

  • Clicking the button opens the Mix & Match interface.

  • Customers select their items and proceed directly to checkout.

  • When customers click the Go to Bundle Builder button, the Mix and Match interface will open directly on the product page, allowing them to select their preferred items easily.
