How to set a subscription discount/flat rate that changes after a number of successful payments

Updated over a month ago

You can set an initial discount in a subscription for a specific number of successful payments and define that the discount changes (decreases or increases) afterward for the remaining payments.

Common Applications

  • Offering Free trial
You can offer free trials by setting a 100% discount for a specific number of successful payments and then changing it to 0% (or another discount) afterward.

  • Encouraging Customers to Subscribe

Set a higher discount for the earlier payments to encourage customers to subscribe and increase your conversion rate.

  • Extra Expenses in the First Payment
If you want your customer to pay an extra fee in the first payment of their subscription.

How can I automatically adjust the discount/price of my subscriptions?

You can access this option by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Subscription Plans tab.

  2. Create a new subscription plan.

  3. Click on Add/Edit Selling Plan.

  4. Set the frequencies that you want.

  5. Enable Offer Discount or Flat Rate.

  6. Set the initial discount or flat rate.

  7. Enable Adjust Price After Specified Number of Orders.

  8. Enter the second discount in the <Change to> field.

  9. In the <After> field, choose the number of successful payments after which the discount/flat rate will change.

Example:

Let’s say you set the initial discount to 50% for the first 3 payments, and then change it to 10% afterward. Here's how it works:

  • The customer is charged 50% of the product price for the first three successful payments.

  • After the third successful payment, the discount automatically adjusts to 10%.

What Happens if a Payment Fails or Is Skipped?

  • If any of the first three payments are skipped or fail, they do not count as a successful payment.

  • In this case, the discount will not change to 10% until the customer successfully completes 3 payments.

Editing a subscription plan won't affect previous subscription contracts and will only apply to future subscriptions on your store.

How does adjusting the price look like on the product page?

When you adjust the price after a specified number of orders, a description will appear in the footer of the subscription widget on your product page. This description explains in more detail how the discount works and how the price will change after the specified number of successful payments.
