Why does Subi say a subscription was changed too many times recently?

The message means a subscription reached its limit of 10 changes in 24 hours. Which changes count, who counts, and when you can try again.

You try to pause, cancel or skip a subscription and Subi answers: "This subscription has been changed too many times recently. Please wait before changing it again." Nothing is wrong with the subscription. It has reached a limit.

What the limit is

Each subscription can take 10 of these changes in any 24 hours. The count is kept for each subscription on its own, so other subscriptions are not affected. The same message also appears when a subscription has had 20 changes that failed in 24 hours.

Which changes count

  • Cancelling a subscription

  • Pausing it

  • Resuming it

  • Skipping an order

  • Combining it with another subscription

It does not matter who makes the change. A change made by you or your team in Subi, by the subscriber in the customer portal, or by an app through the API counts. Bulk pause, cancel and resume from the Bulk edit tool do not count, and neither do changes Subi makes by itself, such as in payment recovery.

Other edits are not counted, such as changing a product, a price, a quantity, the next order date, or a subscriber’s contact details.

What to do

Wait and try again. The limit moves with time: each change stops counting 24 hours after it was made. Until then the subscription stays as it is. The numbers are the current ones and may change.
